Keep your Special Educators. Improve Outcomes in Literacy. Winter Session

About this event:

Keep your Special Educators. Improve Outcomes in Literacy. Support Personalized Reading Plans. Let’s ADD to our literacy rigor for learners with moderate to severe disabilities -- Winter Session

Let’s ADD to literacy rigor for learners with moderate to severe disabilities! As part of our ADD Series—Assign, Design, Deliver—this winter professional learning session will build on what’s working and strengthen existing instructional resources through an inclusive, evidence-based lens. In partnership with Attainment Company, we will highlight practical frameworks, tools, and instructional strategies to guide special educators to assign meaningful literacy skills, design accessible learning experiences, and deliver rigorous, engaging instruction.

In this literacy workshop we will be including:

  • Best Practices for Students with ID and Autism Reference Guides for the five pillars (Embedded Instruction, Model-Lead-Test, System of Least Prompts, Task Analytic Instruction, and Time Delay)

  • Early Literacy Skills Builder Introduction with emphasis on keeping the rigor in literacy instruction

  • High Leverage Practices (HLPs) Domain Three: Instruction in Behavior and Academics HLP Domain Three: Instruction in Behavior and Academics: HLP 15 for scaffolding

  • The DiAMs Chart: Differentiation, Accommodations, Modifications and Scaffolds

Participants will explore ways to use high leverage and best practices to align literacy instruction with skill-based goals, individualize learning opportunities, and use meaningful data to monitor progress and inform instructional decisions. The focus is on equipping educators with practical approaches to strengthen literacy outcomes and create meaningful learning experiences for students with IEPs, particularly those with moderate to severe disabilities.

These components are all designed to work together within the ADD concept: Assign, Design, and Deliver — helping teams thoughtfully assign instructional goals, design accessible learning opportunities, and deliver meaningful instruction that supports student engagement and literacy growth.
