CESA 2 introduced the New Teacher Mentor Project for the 2018- 2019 school year utilizing the work and training of the New Teacher Center, a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving student learning by guiding a new generation of educators.
Research on the program has shown the students of new teachers whose mentors are trained by the New Teacher Center have an additional 2-6 months of growth in Reading and Math per year as compared to other mentor programs. The research has also shown a retention rate of more than 30% higher than in districts that use other mentor programs.
The model is designed to work in any district of any size to support districts in the mentoring of new teachers. Our initial cohort of 50 mentors from 14 districts will continue through the next school year and a second cohort is expected to be added for this year.
