Dr. Valerie Schmitz joined CESA 2 in July of 2018. Having worked at CESA 6 since 2014, she was excited to serve districts closer to her home in Walworth, Wisconsin. Valerie is most passionate about supporting relevant and engaging learning environments. She began her career as a middle school science teacher in Milwaukee Public Schools. Since that time, she has worked as an Instructional Technology Director, Charter School Developer/Director and DPI Consultant. She has an earned Ph.D. in Instructional Design and an Ed.D in Educational Leadership.

Valerie’s experience ranges from instructional technology training, leadership development, systems transformation, and data/policy work. Most importantly, she brings a genuine passion and service leadership to the educator development work she supports.

In 1997, Valerie taught her first online course using newsgroups in “Outlook Express”. Since that time, she has earned a Ph.D in Instructional Design and taught Instructional Design graduate students at both Pepperdine and Purdue Universities. She realizes that not all learners thrive in traditional environments and that a robust and relevant instructional design is critical for all learners, but especially those online. At CESA 2, Valerie designed Wisconsin’s only online substitute teacher certification. She looks forward to providing additional digital resources and guiding general instructional design for districts.
